PS I have spent a lot of time reading through the forum and watching the videos but i was still confused hence the post. Thank you for your time, I hope that this all makes sense, I have listed all the settings in my SilverFast installation below for the purposes outlined above, are there any changes that you would recommend where I might achieve better results, or even the same results in less time. Once I have created the raw file and imported it in to Photoshop, is it best to save the edited file as a Jpeg file for photographic development and what eventual jpeg file size should I be aiming for? If question 1 assumption is correct, what Q factor and dpi is recommended and what raw file size should I expect to create for Photoshop? If I require a photograph as described above, using a 35mm film negative image, do I simply enter the Original size (35mm x 25mm) and scale at 100% - giving me an output size the same as the original? I have been experimenting for the last week with mixed results, being an absolute beginner at all this, I am not entirely sure whether I am going about the process correctly and I was hoping that you might point me in the right direction and I would like to ask a few questions. I aim to have photographs developed (Not Printed) probably in sizes ranging between 15cm x 10cm and 20cm x 15cm. I am hoping to scan and edit these using a combination of Silverfast Ai and Photoshop elements (Version 6) software. I bought it through Amazon, I don't know if it's still available or not, this was about six years ago.I recently purchased an Epsom Perfection V750 Pro with a view to achieving my 35mm and 126 square film negatives, some of which are 33 years old. The manual wasn't much help, I ended up buying a book called "Silverfast: The Official Guide" by Taz Tally. The biggest problem for me with Ai was figuring out how to use all the different tools. I don't now remember what features caused me to upgrade to Ai but I think that most of the raves for Silverfast are for Ai or the higher versions (e.g. Occasionally I'd send a question to the guy who owns the company, sometimes he'd respond and sometimes he wouldn't. I liked Vuescan just fine except that I didn't find the terminology very intuitive and the on-line help wasn't much help either. Silverfast is scanner specific so you have to buy it all over again each time you switch scanners. A nice thing about Vuescan is that you can use it with so many different scanners so once you buy it you've got it even when you replace your scanner. I liked the Epson software that came with my 4990 but it was kind of primitive compared to Vuescan and Silverfast, the software with the V700 may be better. So my question: what do you guys use to scan 6圆 negs and what could be considered best ofīreed, which allows for a streamlined scanning flow. is it worth spending the money on a upgraded version (AI etc.) it seems selecting theįilm type should produce good results, but so far they seem not as detailed as epson scan. Silverfast SE (mac): it seems this software gets rave reviews everywhere. the area selection tool is oddĪt best and it seems to hang often and doesn't open the files straight in PS. VueScan (Mac): tons of features, i mean tons. Rename the settings or where they are stored. Target size and ideally the positioning of the crop of 2 strips. What I cannot figure out is how to save settings! It is driving me insane! I wish to save the Just from my gut it seems to produce the cleanest scans. Now I am wondering what software to use as IĪm experiementing with it. So i finally bought a v700 scanner for my 6圆 negs.
